What Is Salesforce's Data Center Strategy Through 2027?

Direct answer

Salesforce's strategy is to run its software mostly on other companies' infrastructure. Its platform is delivered through Hyperforce, which Salesforce describes as a public cloud architecture that runs on major providers such as AWS, Azure and Google Cloud, while it keeps some infrastructure of its own inside rented, third-party data centers. It has not published a data center plan through 2027.

What it has published is a set of facts. In its 10-K for fiscal 2026 (the year ended January 31, 2026) Salesforce reported about $16.7 billion of commitments with infrastructure service providers and about $3.6 billion of lease payments for offices, co-location data centers and its development and test data center. It also said it may "slow the pace" of its infrastructure investments if its strategy changes. The one dated 2027 item comes from a September 15, 2026 Salesforce release: Hyperforce on Google Cloud reaches general availability in North America in November 2026, with phased feature and regional expansion in 2027, including Germany.

Salesforce's fiscal year ends January 31, so "fiscal 2026" ended January 31, 2026 and fiscal 2027 ends January 31, 2027.

What Salesforce says it runs on

The 10-K for fiscal 2026 describes two sources of capacity. Salesforce says it provides its services "through cloud computing platform partners who offer Infrastructure-as-a-Service, including servers, storage, databases and networking, as well as through infrastructure designed and operated by us but secured within third-party data center facilities."

In its property disclosure, Salesforce says it operates data centers in the U.S., Europe and Asia under various co-location lease arrangements. Co-location means the building, power and cooling belong to a landlord and Salesforce places its own equipment inside. The filing does not list how many sites there are or where they are.

The same filing says Salesforce has had "select data center exits" as part of restructuring, and that it continues to "invest in and expand the deployment of Hyperforce." The filing does not say how many data centers were exited or how large the public cloud share is.

Hyperforce: the public cloud layer

Hyperforce is the name Salesforce gives its infrastructure architecture. Salesforce's own infrastructure page says it runs the Salesforce Platform on major public cloud providers "like AWS, Azure, and GCP," lets customers choose the geographic region where their data is stored and processed, and deploys resources across at least three Availability Zones within each region.

A Salesforce engineering post says agentic AI workloads are unpredictable and bursty, often need specialized hardware such as GPUs, and that the answer is not simply adding more compute. The post describes predictive autoscaling and resource management on Hyperforce. It gives no GPU counts or capacity figures.

The money: commitments, leases and capital spending

The 10-K gives the clearest numbers. All are as of or for fiscal 2026, the year ended January 31, 2026.

Two cautions. The $16.7 billion covers "agreements that are enforceable and legally binding, including those with infrastructure service providers," so it is not all cloud hosting, and the filing does not split it by provider. And Salesforce wrote that while it continues to invest in its infrastructure service providers to provide capacity for growth, "our strategy may continue to change related to these investments and we may slow the pace of our investments."

The 10-Q for the quarter ended July 31, 2026 (fiscal 2027's second quarter) reported no significant changes to its estimates of fixed contractual obligations from the 10-K and repeated the "may slow the pace" language. Its total lease commitment balance, including leases not yet commenced, was $4.2 billion, of which about $3.5 billion related to facilities space, against $4.4 billion and about $3.8 billion at January 31, 2026.

The press releases describe adding providers and regions. They do not say Salesforce is leaving AWS. SiliconANGLE framed the 2025 Google deal as an effort to lessen reliance on AWS, which is the outlet's reading, not a Salesforce statement.

What is actually dated for 2027

Only one forward-looking infrastructure item with a 2027 date turned up in Salesforce's own material. In the September 15, 2026 release, the availability list reads: Hyperforce on Google Cloud, North America general availability in November 2026, then phased feature and regional expansion in 2027, including Germany.

Not published in the filings and releases read for this page: a count of Salesforce data centers, a multi-year capital spending plan, a GPU or AI-capacity number, or a split of its commitments between AWS, Google Cloud and others. Anything claiming those figures is not coming from these sources.

The 10-Q includes risk language about data center constraints. It says increasing constraints on data center power, land and water availability could limit its ability to expand data center capacity in affected regions, increase operating costs, or require changes to its infrastructure plans. That is a risk factor, not a plan.

Questions people ask

Does Salesforce own its own data centers?

Salesforce says it operates data centers in the U.S., Europe and Asia under co-location lease arrangements, and that some of its infrastructure is designed and operated by Salesforce but secured within third-party data center facilities. It also relies on cloud computing platform partners. Its 10-K does not list the number of sites.

Which clouds does Hyperforce run on?

Salesforce's infrastructure page names AWS, Azure and GCP as examples of the major public clouds. Salesforce has announced Hyperforce deployments through AWS (including Saudi Arabia, in February 2025) and on Google Cloud (September 15, 2026).

How much has Salesforce committed to infrastructure providers?

In its 10-K for fiscal 2026, Salesforce reported about $16.7 billion of total commitments under enforceable agreements, including those with infrastructure service providers, as of January 31, 2026: $3.7 billion due in the next 12 months and $13.0 billion thereafter. Separately it reported about $3.6 billion of lease payments.

Is the Google Cloud deal worth $2.5 billion?

SiliconANGLE reported on February 24, 2025 that Salesforce signed a seven-year, $2.5 billion deal with Google Cloud. Salesforce's own press release for that day did not state a dollar amount.

Does Salesforce have a data center plan through 2027?

Not a published one. Its filings and newsroom pages give commitments, leases and partner announcements. The one 2027 item is the phased feature and regional expansion of Hyperforce on Google Cloud, including Germany, announced on September 15, 2026.

What does fiscal 2026 mean for Salesforce?

Salesforce's fiscal year ends January 31. Fiscal 2026 ran to January 31, 2026, and fiscal 2027 ends January 31, 2027.

Salesforce's data center strategy, as far as it has published it, is public cloud through Hyperforce plus infrastructure in rented data centers, with large binding commitments behind both.
