How we ranked these

We ranked ten Audi Q7 model years like for like on the Premium trim with its 3.0-liter V6: the 3.0T Premium for 2012 to 2018 and the 55 TFSI Premium for 2019 to 2024. The base engine changed during that span: the 2017 to 2024 Q7 Premium was also sold with a four-cylinder engine, so we compared the V6 Premium each year instead. The order is the KBB.com rating, then KBB.com 0-60 mph time, then EPA combined mpg, then original MSRP. The ten years are the 2012 to 2015 4L and the 2017 to 2024 4M, because Audi sold no Q7 in the US between the 2015 and the 2017 model years. NHTSA lists recalls for every year, so recalls did not separate the picks, and we did not rank on raw recall or complaint totals. Each pick is one model year, ten different years. The photos show the right generation for each year, not the exact trim: 2012 to 2015 the facelifted 4L Q7, 2017 to 2019 the first 4M Q7 and 2020 to 2024 the facelifted 4M.
