How we ranked these

We ranked ten Lexus RX model years across all five generations: XU10 (1999 to 2003 model years, the RX 300), XU30 (2004 to 2009, RX 330, RX 350 and RX 400h), AL10 (2010 to 2015, RX 350 and RX 450h), AL20 (2016 to 2022, adding the long-wheelbase RX 350L and RX 450hL) and ALA10 (2023 on, RX 350, RX 350h and RX 500h). Ranking is NHTSA owner complaint counts first, then Kelley Blue Book reliability ratings, then year, with used prices from KBB; recall counts were not used to rank. NHTSA's recall lookup returned no results for the 2009 and 2023, so those recall counts could not be confirmed and those years are ranked on complaints only. KBB shows one reliability rating across a run of years (4.8 for 2003 to 2015, 4.5 for 2017 to 2021, 4.2 for 2023), so it separates generations more than single years. Counts were read from the NHTSA API and prices from KBB when we checked, and prices change weekly. NHTSA files the RX under several model names (RX300, RX350, RX400H, RX450H, RX350L, RX450HL, RX 350, RX 450H and RX450H HYBRID), so complaint counts are unique complaints and recall counts are unique campaign numbers across those names. Newer years have had less time to collect complaints, so they rank higher on that measure, and mileage matters as much as year.
