Direct answer

You cannot sign up and get it: Rivian's Point to Point hands-free driving is invitation-only, open to U.S. owners of Gen 2 R1 and R2 vehicles who pay for an Autonomy+ subscription, with trials not counting. Rivian began inviting owners on October 15, 2026, according to InsideEVs, and Kelley Blue Book reported on October 21, 2026 that the invite-only beta had begun, in California and Florida only.

If you own an eligible vehicle, express interest through your Rivian account and keep Autonomy+ active. Electrek reports Autonomy+ costs $49.99 per month or $2,500 one-time, that testers are not paid, and that they sign an NDA. Reports differ on timing, so read the timeline section below.

What Point to Point is, and is not

Electrek explains that Rivian's current Universal Hands-Free does not stop for traffic lights or stop signs, and that point-to-point is meant to cover a whole trip. CEO RJ Scaringe called the first version Level 2++: hands off the wheel, eyes on the road.

autoevolution says it builds on Universal Hands-Free and follows active turn-by-turn directions on any road type under driver supervision. InsideEVs is just as clear: the systems are hands-off but not eyes-off, so you still have to supervise.

Who can get in

Per Electrek and InsideEVs, Rivian looks for these things:

Owners can express interest through a tile in their Rivian account, per Electrek, and autoevolution says you do not need to reapply if the program has not yet reached your region. InsideEVs and Kelley Blue Book say the first owners are in California and Florida, with more areas to follow.

What it costs

Rivian does not publish a separate price for the early access program in any of the reports read here; Kelley Blue Book says it does not state one for Point to Point. What you need is Autonomy+:

Electrek adds that Rivian began charging for Autonomy+ in April after a free trial. Testers get new Autonomy features early over the air and a newsletter.

What testers agree to

This is a research program, not a finished product. Electrek, InsideEVs and Kelley Blue Book describe the same obligations:

On hardware, Kelley Blue Book says the R2 launches without the final LiDAR and the RAP1 Autonomy computer, and that Gen 2 R1 vehicles also lack them in this soft launch. It reports that Rivian's CEO confirmed current owners will get point-to-point on their current hardware.

Timeline, and where the reports disagree

Electrek and InsideEVs both say Point to Point reaches this group in late 2026, with a wider rollout in 2027. InsideEVs lists invitations starting October 15, 2026, and Kelley Blue Book, dated October 21, 2026, says the closed beta meets CEO RJ Scaringe's promise of a start before the end of the year. Kelley Blue Book also says Rivian pushed the nationwide general fleet release to 2027.

autoevolution, dated October 15, 2026, instead says the program opens in December, with an expected kickoff on December 9 at Rivian's second Autonomy & AI Day in San Francisco. InsideEVs also lists December 9 for that event. These accounts do not match exactly, so check your Rivian account tile for your own status.

Looking further ahead, Electrek says hands-off, eyes-off driving is expected in 2027 and Level 4 in 2028, and notes that Rivian had promised an eyes-free system in 2026 back in January 2025, so the schedule has slipped.
