How we ranked these

This list covers open-world RPGs you can buy today on PC or a current console: games whose makers sell them as RPGs or action RPGs and whose world is one large open map or a set of large open regions. We read each game’s main Metacritic page on November 3, 2026, and ranked purely by its Metascore; ties go to the game with more critic reviews behind its score. The Metascore is the one on each game’s main Metacritic page, which for multi-platform games may reflect one platform’s version. Prices are the US Steam store price for PC (or the US Nintendo eShop price for the Switch-only pick) on the same day, and they can change. We counted The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (96) as an action-adventure game and Monster Hunter Wilds (88) as a hunting game rather than open-world RPGs, so they are not ranked. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition also has an 84 Metascore but fewer critic reviews than Hogwarts Legacy, so it falls just outside the top 10. We did not use HowLongToBeat play-time figures. No publisher paid for a place or received any adjustment. Facts are taken from each maker's own published information; check the official site before you buy.
