Direct answer

Stability AI is private and has not published its revenue, so no one outside can size a revenue gap with certainty. The only revenue figure we found is an outside estimate: Sacra estimates about $50M for 2024, up from about $8M in 2023. Sacra's numbers are estimates, not company statements (Sacra).

What is documented is a turnaround. In June 2024 the company named Prem Akkaraju CEO and Sean Parker executive chairman after a rescue financing (TechCrunch). On August 25, 2026 it announced a $76M Series B, bringing total funding to $232M under Akkaraju, with Electronic Arts, Sony Music Group, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group among the new investors (Stability AI).

The most credible route we can see is to turn its open models into paid enterprise relationships: custom solutions, licensed partners and metered API usage. That is our analysis, not a reported plan, and it is opinion rather than investment advice.

What happened in 2024

TechCrunch reported on June 25, 2024 that Stability named Prem Akkaraju, formerly CEO of Weta Digital, as CEO and Sean Parker as executive board chairman. The company did not disclose the size of the financing; TechCrunch cited the Wall Street Journal for $80 million committed by new investors including Greycroft, Coatue, Sound Ventures, Lightspeed and O'Shaughnessy Ventures (TechCrunch).

The same article describes the state of the business before the change. It says co-founder Emad Mostaque left in March after investor pressure, and, citing reports, that Stability had $4 million in the bank the previous October, faced $99 million a year in cloud infrastructure costs and $53 million in operating expenses and wages, and projected $11 million in sales for 2023. It also reports that suppliers agreed to forgive about $100 million in debt and that the company was released from about $300 million in future obligations, mostly owed to cloud providers. These are TechCrunch's reported figures, not Stability statements.

What Stability says it has done since

The company's own news page lists a run of enterprise and entertainment moves. In August 2025 it announced Stability AI Solutions and SOC 2 Type II and SOC 3 compliance, in September 2025 Stable Image Services on Amazon Bedrock, and in October and November 2025 partnerships with Electronic Arts, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group (Stability AI news). In 2026 it launched Brand Studio (April 8) and Stable Audio 3.0, an open-weight audio model family trained on licensed data (May 20).

How Stability charges today

Stability's Community License is free for researchers, developers, small businesses and creators with less than $1M in annual revenue. Above $1M of annual revenue, a fee applies, and enterprise licensing is custom-priced; buyers are told to contact the company (Stability AI license).

API access is sold in credits at $0.01 each. The pricing page lists Stable Image Ultra at 8 credits, Stable Diffusion 3.5 Large at 6.5, Stable Diffusion 3.5 Medium at 3.5, Stable Image Core at 3 and Stable Audio 3.0 at 8, and notes pricing is subject to change (Stability AI API pricing). Brand Studio has a Core plan that can be tried for free and an Enterprise plan sold through the sales team, with no prices listed (Stability AI).

What is not public

Stability has not published revenue, customer counts or margins. Its August 2026 funding post and press coverage of it contain no revenue figures (Music Business Worldwide). Sacra says revenue comes mainly from usage-based API credits and enterprise licensing, but that is a third-party estimate, and its figures are not directly comparable with TechCrunch's reported 2023 projection.

Because revenue is unpublished, we cannot say how large any shortfall is today. The premise of the question is an assumption. What follows is what we would test.
