What's a good NRR for Series B SaaS in 2027?
A good NRR for a Series B SaaS company is at or above the roughly 101%-102% median that recent private-company surveys report, and a strong one is near the 108% 75th percentile one of them reports. Below 100% means the existing customer base is shrinking in dollar terms.
No report read here publishes a figure labeled "Series B." They cut data by ARR, contract value or funding type instead, so Series B is best read as a range of ARR. SaaS Capital's 2025 survey of 1,000+ private B2B SaaS companies reports a 101% median NRR. The Aleph and Benchmarkit report on calendar 2025 puts the median at 102%, with the 75th percentile at 108% and the 25th at 92%. KeyBanc and Sapphire reported about 101% in their 2024 release.
Definitions differ between sources, and the tools named below are vendor-stated. For one public company's number, see our ServiceNow net revenue retention page.
What the benchmark reports say
Each report uses a different sample, year and definition, so the figures below are not directly comparable. All were read from the linked pages on November 2, 2026.
- SaaS Capital, 2025 B2B SaaS Retention Benchmarks. Its Research Brief 32 says its 14th annual survey drew more than 1,000 private B2B SaaS companies, excluding those under $1M ARR. Across all companies the 2025 median net retention is 101% and gross retention 91%. Bootstrapped companies report 104% NRR and equity-backed companies 101%.
- Aleph and Benchmarkit, 2026 SaaS and AI Performance Benchmarks. In Aleph's summary of the report (published June 1, 2026), the sample is 342 B2B SaaS and AI-native companies, with NRR from the 230 that reported it, on calendar 2025 data. The median NRR is 102%, the 75th percentile 108%, and the 25th percentile 92%, down from 95% in 2024 (vendor-stated by Aleph).
- KeyBanc Capital Markets and Sapphire Ventures. The October 2024 press release for the private SaaS survey says more than 100 privately held SaaS companies took part, with median 2023 ARR of about $26 million. It reports net retention of about 101% and gross retention of about 90%. The 2025 survey page says net retention stays above 100% but gives no figure.
- ChartMogul, SaaS Retention Report. The inaugural 2023 edition covers over 2,100 SaaS businesses, with aggregates for 2022 unless stated. It says best-in-class NRR is in the ~110/120% range, and 35.1% of businesses at $15-30M ARR have NRR over 100%.
How NRR changes with company size
Series B companies span a range of ARR, so the ARR cuts are the closest guide. ChartMogul's top-quartile NRR is 94% for $1-3M ARR, 99% for $3-15M and over 105% for $15-30M, for 2022. The text gives top quartile only, not medians.
The Aleph and Benchmarkit report gives medians of 94% below $5M ARR, 101% at $20M-$50M, and 103% above $100M (vendor-stated by Aleph, which gives no figures for the $5M-$20M band). It also says usage-based pricing has a 108% median against 98% for seat-based, and companies growing above 50% have a 111% median against 92% below 10% growth.
SaaS Capital finds contract value matters more than age or revenue. Its median NRR is 98% under $12k ACV, 103% at $12k-$25k, 102% at $25k-$50k, 104% at $50k-$100k, 102% at $100k-$250k and 106% above $250k. At $25k-$50k the quartiles are 97%, 102% and 111%.
Why NRR matters for growth
SaaS Capital says the median growth rate across its sample was 24%, and that groups with NRR of at least 110% grew faster than that median while groups under 100% grew slower. Moving from the 100%-110% NRR band to 110%-120% adds 9 percentage points of growth, and its highest-NRR companies show median growth double the median. It calls this a correlation, not proof of cause.
How NRR is defined, and why numbers differ
SaaS Capital measures December 2024 MRR from customers who were also customers in December 2023, divided by total December 2023 MRR, including upsells, cross-sells and price increases. ChartMogul's help center gives (starting MRR plus expansion plus reactivation minus contraction minus churn) divided by starting MRR, and notes that excluding reactivation lowers the rate and excluding contraction raises it. Aleph uses starting ARR plus expansion minus contraction and churn, divided by starting ARR, on a fixed cohort over 12 months. Before comparing yourself to a median, match its definition.
Tools that measure NRR
These are subscription analytics, customer success and finance products. Descriptions are the companies' own statements (vendor-stated), none has been tested here, and no company is favored.
- ChartMogul: describes itself as a subscription analytics platform trusted by over 3,000 software companies, tracking MRR, ARR, churn, expansion and contraction, and publishes the retention report above. Pricing is not shown on the home page; it offers a 14-day Pro trial.
- Baremetrics: describes itself as a subscription analytics platform focused on Stripe users, says more than 900 companies use it, and lists benchmarks, Cancellation Insights and Payment Recovery. Its home page does not name NRR as a metric.
- ChurnZero: describes itself as customer success software with health scoring, renewal forecasting and reporting. Its home page lists results such as a 21% increase in gross revenue retention without naming the customers, period or baseline.
- Aleph: describes itself as an AI-native FP&A platform with 150+ connectors for ERP, HRIS and CRM data, and co-published the benchmark report above.
What the evidence does and does not show
- Medians cluster near 101%-102%. Three surveys with different samples land within one point of each other.
- No source labels Series B. Use ARR band, contract value and pricing model, not the funding label.
- Definitions and years differ. MRR versus ARR, reactivation treatment and 2022, 2023 or 2025 data affect the numbers.
- Some figures are vendor-stated. Aleph's page and all tool descriptions are the companies' own words.
Questions people ask
Is 100% NRR good for Series B SaaS?
It is at the break-even line. SaaS Capital's 2025 survey median is 101% and Aleph and Benchmarkit's 2025 median is 102%, so 100% is just below the median, and 92% is the 25th percentile in the Aleph and Benchmarkit report (vendor-stated).
What NRR is top quartile?
Aleph and Benchmarkit report a 75th percentile of 108% (vendor-stated). SaaS Capital reports a 111% top quartile at $25k-$50k ACV, and ChartMogul calls ~110/120% best-in-class.
Is NRR the same as gross revenue retention?
No. SaaS Capital says gross retention uses the same formula but excludes upsells, cross-sells and price increases, so it cannot exceed 100%. Its 2025 median gross retention is 91%.
Which report should I benchmark against?
Pick the one matching your ARR band and contract value, and match its NRR definition. None of the reports here uses a Series B label.
