Direct answer

Buy ServiceNow if your core need is IT, employee and customer service workflows on one platform. Buy Salesforce if your core need is CRM: sales, marketing and commerce. They overlap in customer service, low-code app building and AI agents, and that overlap is where the choice is genuinely close.

The public numbers show both as large, growing vendors. ServiceNow reported subscription revenues of $3,877 million in Q2 2026, up 24.5% (Q2 2026 release). Salesforce reported subscription and support revenue of $10.8 billion in its quarter ended July 31, 2026, up 12%, including $440 million from the Informatica acquisition (Q2 fiscal 2027 release). Neither filing ranks the two companies against each other, and we found no public market-share figure we would trust.

Everything below separates what each company says from our analysis, which is labeled as ours. This is not investment or purchasing advice. For a different ServiceNow comparison, see ServiceNow vs Microsoft Power Platform.

What ServiceNow says it sells

ServiceNow's 10-K says the ServiceNow AI Platform "connects people, processes and data to break down silos" and that its products are grouped into four areas: Technology, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Industry, Core Business, and Creator and Other (10-K). The Technology products help companies "unite technology, risk management and security operations on a single platform".

Its CRM and Industry products are described as helping "organizations integrate front- end customer service functions with operations, field service resources, sales processes and order management". Customer Service Management, the 10-K says, "provides customer self-service support across channels, centralizes customer interactions, and directs requests to the appropriate customer representative, all within a unified workspace".

On AI, the 10-K says customers can "rapidly deploy thousands of out-of-the-box ServiceNow AI agents", and the Q2 2026 release reports CEO Bill McDermott saying "agentic deployments of ServiceNow AI increased ninefold in just nine months" (Q2 2026 release).

What Salesforce says it sells

Salesforce's 10-K breaks subscription and support revenue into five offerings. In the fiscal year ended January 31, 2026, Agentforce Service brought in $9,818 million and Agentforce Sales $9,028 million, each up 8%; Agentforce 360 Platform, Slack and Other brought in $8,882 million, up 23% (10-K).

The same 10-K says its Agentforce Service offering "enables companies in every industry to bring all of their customer, employee, IT and field service needs onto one integrated, AI-powered platform". That is the overlap with ServiceNow stated in Salesforce's own words, although the 10-K does not name ServiceNow.

The Q2 fiscal 2027 release says Agentforce ARR "exceeded $1.5 billion, up over 240% Y/Y", and that Agentforce and Data 360 ARR reached "nearly $3.9 billion" (release). Those are Salesforce's own metrics, and ServiceNow does not publish a matching one.

What the filings show side by side

Read the table with care. The periods differ (a calendar quarter against a fiscal quarter ending July 31), Salesforce's growth includes an acquisition, and the two companies define their metrics differently. Salesforce is the larger company by revenue; ServiceNow reported the faster growth in the periods shown. Neither fact says which product fits your needs.

What each vendor publishes on price

Prices were read on October 18, 2026. They are list prices that Salesforce says are subject to change.

That asymmetry is useful to know. You can sketch a Salesforce seat-based rollout from the public page before talking to anyone; with ServiceNow you cannot, so the cost comparison has to come from real quotes for the same scope.

Our analysis: where they overlap and where they do not

This section is our analysis, not a statement by either company.

The cleanest split is the system of record. ServiceNow's filings start from technology and employee workflows (IT service, risk, security) and extend to customer service. Salesforce's filings start from customers (sales, service, marketing, commerce) and extend through a data and AI platform. If the work you are automating begins with a ticket, an asset or an employee request, ServiceNow is the natural home. If it begins with a lead, an account or an opportunity, Salesforce is.

The contested ground is customer service, low-code and AI agents. Both companies sell a customer service product, both sell low-code tools for building workflows and apps, and both are selling agents on top of them. There, the deciding factors are usually where your customer data already lives, which team will own the build, and what the integration costs, not a feature checklist.
