How Does ServiceNow Compete Against AI-Native Workflow Tools in 2027?
On the record so far, ServiceNow competes by owning the system of record and adding AI on top of it, and by buying AI-native companies rather than only fighting them. It closed its acquisition of Moveworks on December 15, 2025, and its Q3 2026 results (October 28, 2026) show subscription revenues of $3,988 million, up 21% year over year, with its 2026 AI net new ACV target raised to $1.7 billion.
The AI-native tools it faces are real but come from different angles: Atomicwork and Aisera target IT service management directly, while Zapier, n8n, Workato and Tines come from automation and integration. Atomicwork publishes a case study headlined as replacing ServiceNow in 6 weeks; that is a vendor-stated claim.
No source read here compares win rates or total cost between ServiceNow and any of these vendors, so none is given. Every vendor figure below is labeled vendor-stated.
What ServiceNow has published about its own position
ServiceNow's Q3 2026 results release, dated October 28, 2026, reports subscription revenues of $3,988 million, up 21% year over year (20.5% in constant currency), and total revenues of $4,106 million. Current remaining performance obligations were $13.65 billion as of September 30, 2026.
The release says 19 transactions topped $5 million in net new ACV in the quarter, up over 135% year over year, and that 680 customers are above $5 million in ACV. It raised its 2026 AI net new ACV target to $1.7 billion, from $1 billion at the start of the year. The release gives no Now Assist figures, so this page does not estimate them. For that question see our Now Assist analysis.
It bought an AI-native front door: Moveworks
On December 15, 2025, ServiceNow announced completion of its acquisition of Moveworks, which offers a front-end AI assistant, enterprise search and an agentic Reasoning Engine. The release says the two platforms span 5.5 million employee users and about 250 mutual customers, and that nearly 90% of Moveworks customers have deployed it to all employees.
Amit Zavery, ServiceNow's president, COO and CPO, said the combination "will create an AI-native front door that turns conversations into completed work." That is ServiceNow's description, not an independent assessment. It means one of the best-known AI-native assistant companies is now part of ServiceNow rather than a competitor.
The AI-native challengers aimed at IT service management
Atomicwork calls itself "the AI-native ITSM and ESM platform, run by AI Coworkers and governed by your IT team." It raised a $25 million Series A on January 28, 2025, led by Z47 and Khosla Ventures. Its site shows a governance control plane with role-based access control and cost guardrails, lists 100+ other apps beyond Okta, Slack, Workday, GitHub, Salesforce and Microsoft Entra, and claims an 80% AI resolution rate (vendor-stated). Its site headlines a case study that Pepper Money "replaced ServiceNow in 6 weeks"; the page also says Atomicwork can run on top of ITSM platforms including ServiceNow. No pricing is published.
Aisera describes itself as "an AI-native enterprise service management platform." Automation Anywhere acquired it and completed the deal on November 4, 2025, so it is no longer an independent startup. Its page claims an 80% auto-resolution rate for IT Service Desk and 84% for IT Service Management (vendor-stated), and says AIOps can detect and prevent incidents up to 48 hours before they occur.
The AI-native challengers from automation and integration
Zapier publishes clear prices: a Free plan with 100 tasks per month, Pro from $19.99 per month billed annually for 750 tasks, Team from $69.00 per month billed annually for 2,000 tasks, and custom Enterprise. AI agents have basic access on every plan and are billed in activities rather than tasks, with 400 activities on Free and 1,500 on Pro.
n8n calls itself "the platform for agents and workflows you can follow". It lists 500+ native integrations, MCP support and human-in-the-loop review, and shows 209.3k GitHub stars on its homepage. Its repository says it is fair-code under the Sustainable Use License. Cloud pricing is EUR 20 per month for Starter (2.5K executions), EUR 50 for Pro (10K) and EUR 667 for Business (40K, self-hosted only), billed annually.
Workato calls its product "The control & execution platform to govern AI, connect apps and data, and orchestrate workflows and agents." It says it is the control and execution plane for AI agents used by over 100,000 employees and that it automates 100M+ tasks per month (vendor-stated). It lists no prices, and its only ServiceNow mention is an entry in its integrations menu, so it sits next to ServiceNow as much as against it.
Tines calls itself "The secure environment for AI agents, apps and automation." It is aimed at security and IT work, including an AI SOC for alert intake, triage and remediation. Its free edition allows three live workflows and a one-time $50 AI allowance; paid pricing is not published.
What the evidence does and does not show
- Overlap is partial. Atomicwork and Aisera compete for service desk work. Zapier, n8n, Workato and Tines are automation and integration platforms, and Workato lists ServiceNow as an integration.
- Pricing differs in openness. Zapier, n8n and Tines publish at least some prices; Atomicwork and Workato do not on the pages read here.
- Consolidation is under way. Moveworks went to ServiceNow and Aisera went to Automation Anywhere, both announced as completed in late 2025.
- Results are vendor-stated. Resolution rates and customer wins come from each company's own site. No independent comparison against ServiceNow was found on the pages read.
